Titans Top Hornets in 8-7 Thriller
Darlington, SC- The Titans and Hornets delivered a Friday night thriller on Kraikit Field, with Trinity emerging an 8-7 winner. The Titans would take an early 1-0 lead off a goal by 8th Grader James Whitehead before his brother Hugh would take over for the rest of the game. Trinity would hold the advantage for the rest of the night before Aiken rallied from a 7-5 deficit to tie the game at 7 with just over two minutes remaining in the contest. Hugh Whitehead, already with six goals on the night, would find the back of the net one more time, putting the Titans ahead with 1:43 remaining in the contest. Hugh Whitehead's school-record tying 7th goal would prove to hold up as the game-winner.
Aiken would have a couple good chances to tie the game but goalie Benson Driggers would slam the door shut for good with clutch saves. He would finish with 13 on the night. On the offensive end, Hugh Whitehead's record night was aided by Wells Morgan, who finshed with three assists, and Trevor Driggers, who had two. On the defensive end, Oliver Brodie led the way with several key caused turnovers and ground balls.
It was a record-setting night all around for Trinity as Hugh Whitehead tied James Herbert (2025 vs. Hilton Head Christian) for most goals scored in a game in school history. Head Coach Colin Renner also became the winningest boys' lacrosse coach in school history. The win over Aiken marked the first time that Trinity has defeated an SCHSL opponent in boys' lacrosse. The Titans will be back in action next week as they travel to North Augusta to take on Fox Creek on Wednesday, March 25th. Faceoff is set for 6:00 PM.
