Luc Chavez Wins Titans' First Ever Tournament Gold
Summerville, SC- Trinity Collegiate's wrestling program turned in a strong showing at its latest tournament, highlighted by a historic performance and multiple wrestlers earning victories on the mat.
Leading the way was Luciano Chavez (Florence, SC/Montessori School of Florence), who captured first place at 120 pounds with a perfect 4–0 record. Chavez recorded four consecutive pins, defeating L. McAvoy (Hilton Head), J. Heckert (John Paul II), G. Wilshire (Porter-Gaud), and B. Holcombe (Academic Magnet) to claim the championship. His title is especially significant, as it marks the first time in school history that a Trinity Collegiate wrestler has won first place at a wrestling tournament.
Stanton Stonerock (Florence, SC/Montesorri School of Florence) also delivered an impressive performance at 132 pounds, finishing third place with a 5–1 overall record. Stonerock opened with a technical fall over A. D'Orazio (JP2), rebounded from an early loss to G. Mussell (St. John's), and closed the day strong with wins over E. Redfern (Holly Hill Academy), A. Smoak (Colleton County), E. Young (Academic Magnet), and a decisive victory over Mussell in the third-place match.
At 106 pounds, Mateo Chavez (Florence, SC/Montessori School of Florence) battled through a tough bracket to earn fourth place, going 4–2 on the day. Chavez picked up wins over G. Donaldson and B. Morris (Northwood Academy), W. Duncan (JP2), and J. Drayton (North Charleston), with his run showcasing resilience and competitiveness against strong opposition.
Jackson Willard (Florence, SC/Montessori School of Florence) competed at 96 pounds, recording a win via pin over J. Johnson (Holly Hill Academy) while gaining valuable tournament experience in a challenging weight class.
Overall, the event marked a milestone for Trinity Collegiate wrestling, with multiple podium finishes and a historic first-place performance signaling continued growth and momentum for the program.
