JV Titans Dominate In All Three Phases In Home Opener
Darlington, S.C.- After a slow start in the first quarter, the Titans surged to a 28-6 halftime lead en route to a 42-6 victory over the Cavaliers of Lee Academy in their home opener on Thursday night. The first quarter ended with a score of 0 to 0, but Trinity would strike quickly to open up the second quarter. Aiden Lucas would get the Titans on the board with a 25 yard touchdown run through the heart of the Cavalier defense. Jake Sheehy would convert on the extra point to make it 7-0, Titans.
George Taflinger would recover a fumble on the Cavaliers very next snap from scrimmage. Two plays later, quarterback Hucks Kirven would run it in from 7 yards out. Sheehy was good on his second PAT of the night to make it 14-0.
The Cavaliers would respond on their next drive, with their running back taking an option pitch to the endzone. Their two-point conversion attempt would fail. Trevor Driggers would take the ensuing kickoff to the house to extend the Titans lead, with Sheehy's 3rd extra point bringing it to 21-6.
After the Cavaliers next possession ended with a turnover, Lucas would add his second rushing touchdown of the half, dashing 40 yards to the endzone. Sheehy would again hit the point after and the Titans would take a 28-6 lead into the locker room at the half.
With under four minutes left in the third quarter, Lucas would complete the hat trick of rushing touchdowns, dashing 52 yards for his longest score of the night. Sheehy's 5th PAT made it 35-6.
Just 20 seconds into the fourth quarter, Driggers broke free for a 58 yard touchdown run, shaking off several Cavalier defenders on his way to the end zone. Sheehy converted one final time on the PAT, going 6-for-6 in what is certainly a Trinity JV Football Record. The JV Titans are in action again on the road next Thursday night as the head to Walterboro to face Colleton Prep. Kickoff is slated for 6 PM.
