Titans Surge Past Swampcats
Darlington, SC- The Trinity Collegiate junior varsity baseball team earned an 8-3 win over Laurence Manning Academy on Friday at Rhea Field, breaking the game open with a big offensive surge in the middle innings.
Laurence Manning struck first in the third inning, scoring two runs on a groundout to take an early lead.
Trinity quickly answered in the bottom half of the third when Caleb Saleeby delivered an RBI single to help tie the game at 2-2.
The Titans took control in the fourth inning, erupting for five runs on six hits. The rally was highlighted by a two-run single from Hucks Kirven, as Trinity seized a 7-2 advantage and never looked back.
Saleeby continued his strong day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with three singles. Iyhon Robinson, Marshall Campbell, and William Fox also posted multi-hit performances as the Titans finished with 12 total hits.
On the mound, Kirven started for Trinity and worked 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three. Prue Branyon provided strong relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
The Titans added pressure on the bases as well, swiping five stolen bases, with Fox and Saleeby each recording multiple steals. Trinity also turned one double play defensively.
Laurence Manning was led offensively by Jud Reynolds, who went 2-for-3, while Knox Welch and Andrew Truesdale each drove in a run.
The Titans return to action Monday when they host King's Academy at Rhea Field for the home finale.
