Big Third Inning Propels Trinity Collegiate Titans Past Cheraw Braves
Darlington, SC — The Trinity Collegiate Titans used a dominant third inning to surge past the Cheraw Braves, earning a 13-3 victory on Tuesday in their final regular season home game at Rhea Field.
After trailing early, the Titans broke the game open with a seven-run explosion in the bottom of the third. Robert Mack, Ross Meadows, and Tyler Smart each delivered RBI singles, while Garrison Copeland was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run. Brody Phillips and Davidson Lynch added sacrifice flies, and Bennett Bradshaw capped the inning with another RBI single to give Trinity firm control.
Cheraw jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first inning and added another in the second to make it 2-0.
Trinity responded in the bottom of the second, cutting the deficit to 3-2 behind a two-run sacrifice bunt from Miller Buchanan and an RBI groundout by Phillips.
John William Gainey earned the win on the mound for the Titans, going five innings while allowing three runs on 10 hits. The right-hander struck out five and walked one in a steady performance.
Trinity's offense was firing on all cylinders, racking up 14 hits on the day. Bradshaw and Smart led the way with three hits apiece, while Copeland, Meadows, and Mack each added multiple hits. Lynch drove in a team-high three runs, providing key production in the middle of the lineup.
The Titans were also aggressive on the basepaths, swiping four bases, including three by Copeland.
Cheraw tallied 10 hits in the contest, with three players recording two hits each, and turned one double play.
The Titans will be back in action on Thursday as they take the short trip to Florence to face the King's Academy Lions. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM.
