Titans Top Swampcats in Extra Innings Thriller
Darlington, SC- The Trinity Collegiate varsity baseball team earned a dramatic 8-7 walk-off victory over Laurence Manning Academy on Friday at Rhea Field, winning in the bottom of the eighth inning.
With the game tied 7-7 in the final frame, Robert Mack delivered the game-winning hit, singling to bring home the winning run and seal the Titans' extra-inning victory.
Trinity struck first in the opening inning when Brody Phillips lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
The Titans extended that advantage in the third inning with a four-run outburst. Phillips drove in a run with an RBI single, Davidson Lynch followed with a two-run single, and Ross Meadows brought home another run on a fielder's choice to give Trinity a 5-0 lead.
Laurence Manning battled back and eventually tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. The Swampcats scored on an RBI single by Josh Niswonger, a groundout by Brayden Barnhill, an RBI double from Quentin Conklin, and a sacrifice fly by Bryson Pepper to even the score at 7-7.
Trinity responded in the eighth when Mack's walk-off single capped off an exciting finish.
Davidson Lynch led the Titans offensively, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Tucker Mount added two hits as Trinity finished with 11 hits in the win.
On the mound, John William Gainey earned the win in relief, allowing two runs on five hits over four innings while striking out four. Ross Meadows also made a relief appearance for the Titans.
Laurence Manning also totaled 11 hits on the night. Payton Brown, Connor Carter, Quentin Conklin, and Bryson Pepper each recorded two hits for the Swampcats, while Conklin and Pepper each drove in two runs.
The Titans return to action Monday when they host King's Academy at Rhea Field for senior night. Senior night festivites are set to being after the conclusion of the JV game.
