Titans Fall to Cavaliers in Extras
Darlington, SC- The Trinity Collegiate varsity baseball team fell 6-4 to Lee Academy in eight innings on Wednesday at Rhea Field despite outhitting the Cavaliers 8-7.
The Titans struck first in the opening inning when Brody Phillips drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Bennett Bradshaw followed with an RBI single to give Trinity a 2-0 lead.
Trinity added another run in the second inning when Garrison Copeland drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-1.
Lee Academy responded in the top of the third, plating three runs to move in front. The Cavaliers used an RBI single from Chase Entzminger, an RBI triple by Andrew Bowers, and another RBI single from Landon Olson to take a 4-3 lead.
The Titans answered in the fourth when Davidson Lynch lifted a sacrifice fly to even the score at 4-4.
The game remained tied until the eighth inning, when Lee Academy capitalized on two walks to score the go-ahead runs and secure the 6-4 victory.
Ross Meadows turned in a strong relief appearance for Trinity, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, striking out five, and walking one. Davidson Lynch started on the mound for the Titans, allowing four runs on three hits over two innings while striking out one. Lee Academy starter Andrew Bowers went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out five.
At the plate, Bradshaw and Copeland led the Titans with two hits apiece. Lynch, Bradshaw, Phillips, and Copeland each drove in a run. Trinity also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, while swiping four bases and turning a double play defensively.
Lee Academy was paced offensively by Tyler Gilbert, who collected two hits, while Bowers, Entzminger, Olson, and Cash Holloway each drove in a run. The Cavaliers also stole four bases and drew seven walks in the contest.
The Titans will return to action at home Friday when they host Laurence Manning Academy to close out region play. First pitch is set for 7 PM.
