Titans Fall in Manning, 6-3
Manning, SC- The Trinity Collegiate varsity baseball team fell 6-3 to Laurence Manning Academy on Tuesday, despite outhitting the Swampcats 9-6.
Laurence Manning took control early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. A hit batter with the bases loaded brought home the first run, and a Trinity error allowed two more to cross, giving the Swampcats an early advantage they would not surrender.
Trinity continued to battle offensively throughout the game, collecting nine hits. Garrison Copeland led the Titans at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, while Bennett Bradshaw added two hits. Davidson Lynch and Ross Meadows each drove in a run for Trinity.
Drew Cockrell got the start on the mound for the Titans and turned in a strong outing despite taking the loss. The right-hander struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings, allowing six runs—just one earned—on five hits with no walks.
Laurence Manning starter Josh Niswonger earned the win, striking out nine over six innings while allowing two runs on six hits.
The Swampcats were led offensively by Grainger Powell, who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Powell and Connor Carter each recorded two hits for Laurence Manning.
Defensively, Trinity turned one double play, but early miscues proved costly in the three-run defeat.
The Titans return to action Wednesday when they host Lee Academy for a JV/Varsity doubleheader at Rhea Field.
