Titans Late Rally Falls Short In Bluffton
Bluffton— Trinity Collegiate piled up 12 hits Friday afternoon but could not overcome an early deficit in a 6–4 loss to Hilton Head Christian Academy.
The Titans found themselves trailing for much of the game after the Eagles struck first in the opening inning. Roman Colella delivered a sacrifice fly that brought home two runs to give Hilton Head Christian a quick 2–0 lead.
The Eagles added to their advantage in the third inning when Tucker Nelson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, extending the lead to 3–0.
Hilton Head Christian pulled further ahead in the fifth inning, building a five-run cushion before Trinity began to chip away late.
The Titans mounted a rally, cutting into the deficit with a run-scoring double, an RBI single, and a sacrifice fly to narrow the gap, but the comeback attempt fell short.
Brody Phillips led Trinity Collegiate at the plate with three hits as part of the team's 12-hit performance. Bennett Bradshaw, Garrison Copeland, and Ross Meadows each added multiple hits, while Davidson Lynch, Phillips, Gavin Holt, and Robert Mack drove in runs for the Titans. Trinity also turned a double play defensively.
Drew Cockrell started on the mound for Trinity Collegiate, working five innings while allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits. He struck out five and walked four.
Hilton Head Christian was paced by Stone Burd and Nelson, who each drove in two runs. Slaide Burd led the Eagles with two hits, and the home team used aggressive baserunning to swipe four bases while playing error-free defense.
Trinity Collegiate will return home Monday to face Carvers Bay with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM.
